Life is easier with good credit. It makes financing a house, buying a car or making an emergency expense infinitely less stressful.

There’s a number of factors go into your credit score, which reflects your repayments on credit over time. Recent activity gets more emphasis, according to Experian.

Unfortunately, there’s no fast way to improve a mediocre credit score. However, consumers sometimes find inaccurate information in their credit report that could lower their credit score. Consumers may dispute a record with a credit agency, provided the person has a copy of their credit report.

Experian makes the following suggestions for steadily improving your credit score.

• Pay bills on time. Delinquent payments and collections cause a negative impact on a credit scores.

• Keep a low balances on credit cards and other "revolving credit." High outstanding debt can lower your credit score.

• Apply for/open new credit accounts only when needed. Don’t open accounts just to have a better credit mix. This probably won’t improve your credit score.

• Pay off debt rather than moving it around.

• Don’t close unused cards as a short-term strategy to improve your credit score. Owing the same amount but having fewer open accounts may drop your credit score.
